NEW Receives Grant from McGregor Fund to Build Nonprofit Capacity
in Detroit Area
Detroit, MI – NEW of Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan, announced today a generous grant of $35,000 from the McGregor Fund to support programs and services for nonprofit organizations in Detroit. The grant will fund NEW’s technology, board leadership, and information and resource referral services.
“We’re thrilled that the McGregor Fund will be supporting our work to help Detroit-area nonprofits once again,” says Michael Tyson, President and CEO of NEW. “We’re extremely pleased to guide these organizations in building strong boards, leveraging effective technology, and finding the right information and resources to support their work.”
NEW provides affordable capacity building services to nonprofits in southeast Michigan, helping them improve efficiency, cut costs, and maximize impact. NEW’s mission is to help nonprofits succeed by strengthening nonprofit management and offering solutions to issues facing the nonprofit community. Founded in 1993, NEW, a 501(c)(3), offers four capacity-building programs to help nonprofits make a difference:
- BoardConnect – Comprehensive board and leadership development
- npServ – Technology solutions for nonprofits
- The NEW Center – High-quality office and meeting space
- ResourceConnect – Information and resource referral for nonprofit management questions

The McGregor Fund is a private foundation established in 1925 by gifts from Katherine and Tracy McGregor “to relieve the misfortunes and promote the well-being of mankind.” The foundation awards grants to organizations in the following areas: human services, education, health care, arts and culture, and public benefit. The area of principal interest of the foundation is the City of Detroit and Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties.
